Getting into the right position for learning guitar to avoid pain
Before you begin your lesson, warm up. To loosen up your fingers, you might want to flex your fingers and wrist for a few minutes or run some guitar scales. Warming up is essential before launching into a complicated song. Make sure your hands are limber by performing a five to ten minute warm-up. Consult your teacher if you don’t know where to start. If you warm up first, you’ll avoid stress and strain. This is something you should not overlook.
Positioning the guitar correctly
Ensure that your guitar is held correctly on your lap. This may cause the wrist to bend too much or you may suffer from wrist or arm strain if the guitar is at an angle. Make sure you are holding your instrument correctly by asking your teacher. Furthermore, you may want to consider purchasing a footstool, which can greatly reduce strain. In the classical style, this approach works, but it can also be used for other styles. An instrument must be positioned correctly.
Sit flat on the ground with your back straight and your feet on the ground. Put your feet on the floor while sitting in a chair. Keep your fingers relaxed on the fretboard while putting your thumb behind the neck.
Guitar straps and standing up
When you are standing with your guitar, you need to take care. It is common for players to use long and loose straps. Almost near the knees, they wear their guitars. In spite of its cool look, this pose can be tough on the shoulders, neck, and back. Playing your guitar requires reaching down.
You should place your strap somewhere in the middle of your body. You should try to keep it just above your waist. The most comfortable position and one that will minimize the strain on your body.
Choose a strap that is comfortable and that has some padding on it. As a result, you feel less shoulder pain and strain.
Until you find the right sweet spot in terms of comfort, you may have to adjust your strap a few times. Purchase a new strap if your current one hurts you. Solid leather straps are durable and comfortable to wear, so purchase straps made of this material.
